taxi driver

the blue cars are taxis in jakarta's main road
have you ever entered a taxi from a different side of the door and get a different story of a taxi
driver's life besides this horrible story about them misleading your way to your destination
point or taking you to the longest possible route or not giving you the change,
which is 30% of the total fee.
Or perhaps allowing other people to get into the taxi and practically rob you. God forbid!

I took this cab which pool is in the neighborhood, but not the one dubbed as "the safest taxi"
in town or most recommended taxi company.
But, this one doesn't have any bad rep as well.

This is the taxi driver's story. (Note: 1 USD = Rp. 9,200.00)

* Status: Married, with one wife and three children.
* Wife's status: Regular house wife who manages the house.
* Children status:
Two children enrolled in high school (grade 1&2, which is equals to grade 10&11 in US Standard);
one in junior high school (grade 2, which is equals to grade 8 in US Standard).
* Amount of compulsory rental fee: Rp. 125,000.00
(this is the amount of money of which the taxi driver must give to the taxi company after a day's work.)
* Expenses: Meals (@Rp. 10,000.00 x 3) = Rp. 30,000.00 and Gas (max consumption) = Rp. 70,000.00
* Amount of daily gross income = Rp. 250,000.00 (this is after oil price increase,
before it could reach as much as Rp. 300,000.00)
* Daily grocery: Rp. 20,000.00

Let's do the rough calculation:
* Gross income = Rp. 250,000.00
* Daily rental fee = Rp. 125,000.00
* Expenses = Meals (Rp. 30,000.00) + Gas (Rp. 70,000.00) = Rp. 100,000.00

* Take home pay = Gross income - (Daily rental fee + Meals + Gas) = 250,000 - (125,000 + 100,000) = 25,000
A taxi company provided a gas expenses ceiling, but the amount varies and
most taxi drivers have to pay it off of their gross income.

* Monthly income: Daily take home pay x Working days = Rp. 25,000.00 x 22 = Rp. 550,000.00

* Other expenses: school fees, transportation fee, contingency expenses

* Total manhour spent: 07:00 AM - 00:00 PM (17 hours)

I simply have nothing to conclude on this matter.
